Josh Light: My (Lost) Skylanders OCIt’s no secret at this point that I am very proud of my Crash Bandicoot OC (original character), Barista Garnet… but she is not the first OC I created for the sole purpose of using in my fan fiction stories. No, before Barista, before any of my OCs that have become mainstays in my fanfics here on DeviantArt, there was another. A little while back, I made a post detailing my thoughts on the Skylanders series of video games, in which I expressed how much I loved (not like that) the character Roller Brawl. I loved her so much, in fact, that I ended up feeling inspired to create my first ever fan fiction OC, a Skylanders OC by the name of Josh Light, who would go on the hang out with Roller Brawl on the regular across numerous Skylanders fanfics that I wrote and have since scrapped. Part 1: You’re Joshing Me Joshua Palmer Light was a teenage human boy of fifteen who found himself pulled into Skylands one day by way of an inter-dimensional portal - typical ‘Isekai’ stuff, in other words. Less then twenty-four hours into his time in this strange new world, Josh would encounter the Skylanders for the first time, being unsure of what to make of them at first. Before long, however, he would be befriended by the aforementioned Roller Brawl, who would invite him to live with her in an undead apartment complex in the Cadaverous Crypt beneath the ruins of Master Eon’s citadel, and from there, hijinks would occur on the regular, with Josh trying to adapt to an undead lifestyle despite not being undead himself, struggling to cope with things like sleeping in a coffin rather than a bed, or eating haunted chocolate cereal for breakfast that whispered eerily to him from within the bowl. Josh would also do his best to help out at the Skylander Academy, often being given odd jobs to do by Mags - emphasis on ‘odd’. Josh and the obviously non-canon narrative he was a part of is something that I have rebooted many times over the years, spinning many a new variant of such over on FanFiction.Net since 2014. All of those Skylanders fanfics have been lost to time, however, for I ultimately decided that I wasn’t happy with any of them and deleted them with the intent of moving on. That said, it can’t be understated just how much effort I put into trying to make the character work, rebooting him again and again and again in an attempt to make the perfect iteration… and I’m currently wondering if it might be worth trying again. Part 2: Consistently Inconsistent Josh’s many portrayals over the years had both consistencies and inconsistencies to them. The most consistent thing about him was that he always ended up having ties to Roller Brawl. The two shared a bond akin to loving siblings, though I often hinted at a possible romance between the two of them; it was a very ‘will they, won’t they’ affair, to the point where it was ultimately up to the reader’s interpretation whether or not they would end up together. In my fanfics, I would portray Roller Brawl - or Roll, as I called her for short - as brash, outgoing, somewhat reckless and extremely mischievous, whereas Josh was usually timid, mild mannered, kind to a fault and preferred to avoid confrontations and danger. The two were very much opposites, which of course led to a lot of comedic interactions between them. Josh’s hair was something that was inconsistent throughout all of his portrayals, with it varying in colour, length and style. In early portrayals, he was a brunette. In later portrayals, he was a blonde. In one particular portrayal, his hair, along with the rest of him, magically changed appearance as part of superhero-esque costume, becoming red with a blue streak along the fringe. In the final fanfic he starred in, Josh actually got a haircut courtesy of Calliope, a fairy who originated from the official Skylanders comics, though the outcome of that haircut was rather vague. As for Josh’s clothing, he initially had nondescript casual clothes, though later portrayals would see him don either a green or red jacket, light blue or grey track pants and a pair of white sneakers, the latter prompting Roller Brawl to give him the nickname Sneakers. The latter half of Josh’s portrayals all called attention to the fact that he had freckles, as well as azure blue eyes. Part 3: Not Quite Over Nine Thousand In his earlier portrayals, Josh Light had no special powers to speak of; he was just an ordinary human boy who relied on the Skylanders to bail him out of any dangerous situation he might find himself in. He would train in melee combat with Roller Brawl and the other Skylanders from time to time, but more often than not, when push came to shove, Josh would cower before most foes. In one particular portrayal, Josh discovered, somewhat apropos of nothing, that he could channel the Light Element, the power of which was apparently dormant within him, to undergo a transformation that was very obviously inspired by Nickelodeon character Danny Phantom, with his hair, eyes and clothes changing colour to make him look like a costumed hero, with this glorified palette swap apparently being enough to make him unrecognisable to his friends. In this altered form, Josh took the name Lightweight, a Skylander name that he made up on the spot (my head-canon is that most Skylander names are just hero aliases and that each Skylander other than Spyro and Cynder has a secret ‘real’ name). Lightweight’s powers consisted of super speed and the ability to manipulate light in various ways, such as firing beams of light from his palms - a cheeky reference to Josh’s middle name, Palmer. On occasion, Josh has worn roller derby gear similar to that of Roller Brawl’s, which granted him faster movement speed than normal thanks to the skates, some degree of protection in the form of body armour, and steel claw weapons to defend himself with. The boy often wore derby armour to this effect when training in melee combat with the Skylanders. Though I never pulled the trigger on the idea, I often considered having Roller Brawl bite Josh and turn him into a vampire like her, granting him the supernatural/superhuman powers that came with such. With or without powers, however, Josh often proved to be somewhat resourceful and observant, noticing clues that helped the Skylanders track down an adversary, or managing to steer Spitfire’s SuperChager vehicle, the Hot Streak - albeit somewhat erratically - without crashing it. It was inferred that Roller Brawl would eventually teach Josh to drive her Tomb Buggy, often taking him on rides in it to ‘get used to how her ride handles’. Part 4: Friendship Is (Ten Elements Of) Magic Across his many portrayals, Josh has been affiliated with many Skylanders characters both friend and foe. Aside from his ever-present friendship with Roller Brawl, Josh has also been on good terms with the likes of Spyro, Stealth Elf, Pop Fizz, Jet Vac, Sprocket, Spitfire, King Pen, Rattle Shake, Flynn, Cali, Tessa, Mags and even Bowser (yes, THAT Bowser) to name a few. Josh was somewhat wary of some of the more physically intimidating Skylanders, such as Ghost Roaster and Tuff Luck, but was not, strictly speaking, on bad terms with any of them. The same could not be said for some of the well established bad guys that call Skylands home, however. Josh managed to get on the wrong side of Kaos, Count Moneybone, Mesmerelda and Wolfgang, though in the latter case, the two managed to set aside their differences for the greater good. Josh has had a fairly neutral relationship with the Golden Queen, managing to work with her as needed, but did not typically spend more time in her presence than necessary. Josh has had an inconsistent relationship with Calliope the fairy, with the two sometimes being on good terms, and sometimes fighting each other directly by way of combat as a result of the fairy’s tendency to steal powers from those around her. While I never featured it in any of my fanfics, I intended to have Josh be friends with Dr. Krankcase, Tree Rex and Torch respectively, the latter character having a strong, borderline lustful crush on the human boy, much to his discomfort. Part 5: No! My One (Of Many) Weakness(es)! While Josh was a polite, friendly and down-to-earth lad first and foremost, he wasn’t without his flaws and shortcomings. In addition to his cowardice, Josh was prone to bouts of clumsiness on the regular, as well as being somewhat whiny, often complaining out loud when he wasn’t comfortable with a situation. While being easily spooked in general, Josh was particularly afraid of spiders, which was not helped by Roller Brawl keeping several small arachnids as free-roaming pets in her apartment. Josh was, quite frankly, completely hopeless around girls, which made him the subject of much playful teasing from the female Skylanders, including Roller Brawl and Stealth Elf. It was inferred in seperate portrayals that Josh had a crush on Tessa and Splat respectively, though it’s unknown if either of them returned his feelings or if they were even aware of how he felt. It’s also possible that Calliope may have secretly loved Josh, though this was never confirmed. Whenever girls decided to mess with his head, Josh had no idea how to react and was essentially at the whim of their mischief, often resulting in him receiving some form of physical affection, such as a sudden kiss or hug, that turned him into a stammering, blushing wreck. Conclusion And that was Joshua Light in a nutshell. I previously dismissed him as a textbook example of a bad human OC and scrapped him as a result… but I never stopped thinking about the potential he had. Which brings me to the big question: Should I bring him back? That, fellow Portal Masters, is up to you. Let me know what you think of Josh in the comments below. Does the character appeal to you at all? Are you perhaps a veteran reader of my older Skylanders fanfics who misses both them and Josh? Would you like to see my OG OC make a comeback in a new Skylanders fanfic? I await your feedback, and in the meantime, be sure to stay supercharged… with love.

Master Eon Versus the Town-Devouring Ghoul Summary: Ghost Roaster becoming a Skylander Origin Story. Several decades before the destruction of the Core of Light and the banishment of the Skylanders, Master Eon and Hex are called upon by one of the rulers of the Underworld to journey to the Land of the Undead and fight one of the most dangerous undead creatures - a ghost-devouring ghoul. Can he and his witch companion conquer this dastardly foe, or is Skylands’ most powerful Portal Master about to meet his match? [One-Shot]Notes: This story takes place several decades before the events of the first game, so Master Eon is still alive. Count Moneybone also isn't considered an evil villain yet. He's on his best behavior, don't worry. The items that Master Eon brings with him on his quest are actually canon items, by the way. In Skylanders Universe: Ultimate Search-and-Find, you find out that Master Eon has an enchanted satchel that can hold much more than it can seem, an ancient magic soup ladle, and a favorite fountain pen among other things. Obviously I didn't add ALL of the items from that book (his crystal ball, diary, and magical flute could not make it into the final draft) but I love that a Search-and-Find book actually adds a lot of flavor to Master Eon's character.--------------------Out of all the wonderful locations in the infinite realm of Skylands, one of Master Eon's most treasured places was his garden. He was picturing his idyllic retreat right now, remembering its many abundances of colorful fruits and vegetables. The ripe strawberries, juicy tomatoes, and fragrant herbs, the rows of vibrant sunflowers swaying gently in the warm breeze, and the butterflies flitting from blossom to blossom all entered his mind and he smiled. Yes, he could even hear the bees buzzing, their gentle hum harmonizing with the gentle stream trickling through the field. His garden was a symphony of Skyland's endless bounty and a peaceful retreat whenever his Portal Master duties got a little too stressful.A femur bone struck the wall inches from his head and Eon's smile instantly vanished. He certainly wished he was in his garden right now.Instead of spending this lovely spring morning knee-deep in loam and tending to baby trees, Master Eon had been summoned on Portal Master duty by his old friend Count Moneybone to deal with, in Moneybone's words, "a horrible creature the likes of which have been unseen in hundreds of years." So now both he and Hex, his chosen partner for his journey through the Land of the Undead, were standing in the hallowed halls of Count Moneybone's Villa, waiting for an audience. The problem was, so was every elected official that answered to Count Moneybone's district, and some of the Undead had the tendency to be rowdy. Both Master Eon and Hex stood unmoving and unwavering in the doorway of Count Moneybone's mansion study as they waited for the right time to make an entrance. They watched, brows furrowed and lips pursed in unison, as a crowd of undead mayors, barons, and councilmen yelled at each other in a horrid cacophony of noise. Master Eon was the only creature within the vicinity with a pulse, and yet he was far less animated than the legions of rotted corpses in front of him as decayed limbs gestured at a map on a large dining table, at the air, or at the unlucky owner of the manor.Despite the writhing mass of gleaming bones and putrid flesh all fighting for attention, and despite his less-than-remarkable stature (Moneybone would object to the word "short"), Count Moneybone was still easy to pick out in the crowd. Unlike the ragged robes or the ghastly cloaks befitting most Undead - even the ones that held a position of office - Moneybone liked elaborate purple cloaks, fancy purple gloves, and flashy golden armor. Under the highly expensive chandelier dangling above his head, Moneybone practically gleamed like a spotlight. Which, unfortunately for him, made him an incredibly easy target in this high stress situation. Even from the other side of the room, Master Eon could tell that his old friend was highly stressed out from the constant complaints. With a drooping mustache and a rapidly moving golden eye, Moneybone was fidgeting in place and was alternating between a customer service smile/grimace and quick flashes of temper depending on what was being said in his direction, and he was finding success with neither approach. He was in the middle of yelling at a smartly-dressed skeleton of a lizardman when his eyes spotted Master Eon and he immediately grabbed for that lifeline. Moneybone straightened up, put on his most charming smile, and assumed an extremely regal, composed tone of voice that he often practiced in front of the mirror."Ah, Master Eon and Mistress Hex, I do hope your trip to the Land of the Undead went w-"Count Moneybone immediately realized that he had made a mistake. His efforts were dashed as the crowd of terrified undead noticed that he was talking to fresh blood and turned its attention to Master Eon and Hex. Moneybone gave an indignant yelp as the crowd unceremoniously shoved him aside. Skeletons, ghosts, and zombies began to plead piteously."DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE GHOUL!" screamed a floating skull wearing a top hat."Yes, we're getting to that-" Moneybone tried to interject, but he was outnumbered."A GHOUL! A GHOOOOOUL!""WHO WILL FALL NEXT TO ITS INSATIABLE HUNGER? HOW MANY MORE TOWNS MUST FALL!?""SAVE US, MASTER EON!""TURN THE GHOUL TO STONE, HEX!" "ENOUGH!" A ball of crackling green magic formed in Count Moneybone's right palm, and with a swift, fluid motion, he thrust his hand into the air. There was a crackle of lightning, a powerful hum of necromantic energy that smothered all sound in its wake, the harsh smell of ozone, and then the crowd instantly fell silent. The rest of the undead stood frozen in place, eyes wide in terror, as they stared at Count Moneybone. Arcs of green magic still raced up and down his arm as he glared at the crowd, reminding them that the last hour or so of him tolerating their complaints was actually an act of mercy and patience from their benevolent leader."Let Master Eon speak!" Count Moneybone ordered. Everyone in the room was more than happy to oblige.Master Eon, now feeling every eye on him, quickly moved through the room. The atmosphere was so quiet that the rustle of his blue robes sounded deafening as he shuffled across the carpet until he was face-to-face with Count Moneybone, who was now casually rolling a spark of necromantic energy between two fingers. Eon frowned as he looked at the giant, hand-drawn map on the table. Included with the map was a drawing of the ghoul. Eon picked it up and studied it."From what I can gather, we've been called upon to deal with...a ghoul? I must admit, I'm not familiar with ghouls. Are they rare?""They're exceptionally rare monsters, yes. And damned powerful too." Count Moneybone said, the other members of the undead in the room hanging on his every word. "Ghouls are not natural creatures. Usually, as the stories go, an evil necromancer living in a castle made out of bone will capture some unlucky villagers, horrifically transform them into ghouls and thus cursing them with an eternal hunger, and send them rampaging through the countryside as they devour everything in their path. Awful creatures, really."Master Eon nodded. He was not at all surprised that Count Moneybone of all people would know about a rare creature created by awful necromancy gone bad. Although he wasn't doing the best job at hiding it - Eon was eyeing the magic still crackling off of Moneybone's hand - it was a well-kept secret that Count Moneybone used to be a necromancer back when he was alive. As far as Eon knew, Moneybone never created any ghouls. Moneybone was more of "reanimate the bones and sinew from his wife's pig farm in wacky experiments or resurrect the corpses of his pets" kind of necromancer before his untimely death. "And what makes them different from, say, an army of trolls or an army of dragons?" Master Eon asked carefully, his gaze still on the ghoul drawing. He could instantly recognize Count Moneybone's art style. The creature was very serpentine, with a snake-like tail in place of legs and a skull-like head lined with razor sharp teeth, piercing yellow eyes, and four pointy head spikes. The ghoul was depicted in the drawing wearing a black suit with a striking red collar that rose behind its head like the hood of a cobra. The drawing made sure to draw the ghoul's bony arms held outward like it was roaring in anger. Eon made note of the clothes. Non-sentient creatures didn't wear clothes. Creatures that wore clothes could be reasoned with...Count Moneybone continued, tugging at one end of his mustache. "You know how, when a dragon eats someone, they don't eat the ghost part of the person, and you usually get a very crispy spirit asking for residence in the Land of the Undead? Ghouls can eat ghosts. They're eternally hungry apex predators that can send anyone alive or dead to the afterlife, and a lot of my constituents want to remain uneaten and in this current life as they work through their unfinished business, thank you very much!" The crowd of undead upperclassmen started to murmur words of agreement before being silenced by a glare from Count Moneybone. The gears were turning in Master Eon's head. So a ghoul's power was its hunger. He could work with that."Give me a timeline of this ghoul. When did they first appear, and where can I find them." Master Eon pressed on. If he felt any strong emotions about being asked to face a creature that could instantly send him to the next plane of existence by eating him, his voice did not reveal it. Hex was even calmer than him as she stood next to him, her face completely serene and unreadable.Count Moneybone sighed and pinched his forehead. He was desperately fighting off the beginnings of a stress headache, despite not having any of the flesh to get a headache. "About a month ago, this ghoul randomly materialized near the ghost town of Ribcage, where it immediately and swiftly devoured the entire population of ghosts. I of course acted quickly and had sent the mayor of Ribcage and a scouting party to kill the ghoul, but instead of doing what they were told, they trapped it, attached a ball and chain to it for reasons unknown, and let it roam free-"The fashionable lizardman skeleton from earlier cut in, and it was immediately obvious from the way he grinded his teeth and gestured with his hands that they had suffered this conversation multiple times before."For the last time, I put the ball and chain on the ghoul because the best way to kill a ghoul is to root it in place and starve it to death!" The Mayor of Ribcage said this in an irritated snarl."Oh? And how heavy was the ball and chain?" sneered Count Moneybone."About fifteen pounds, give or take.""Fifteen?! Did you want to starve the ghoul or did you want it to work on its triceps?! My mother could lift fifteen pounds! Fifteen pounds is nothing!" Count Moneybone snapped."Gentlemen! I believe we're getting off-topic!" Master Eon decided to cut in before things got violent. The lizardman, finger still raised in protest, then gave a quick bow and scurried away as Count Moneybone cleared his nonexistent throat."As I was saying, this ghoul has spent the last month haunting the surrounding area of Ribcage, eating anything it can get its horrible claws on. We still don't know how many citizens have lost their unlives and its territory has been gradually expanding as it's hunting for more food. I want you to take care of it before this problem gets out of hand! The entire Land of the Undead is at stake here!"Sensing that the crowd of undead was still watching both his and Eon's every move, Count Moneybone then grabbed one edge of his cape with one hand and raised his other hand in the air as if reaching for heaven's light. He raised his voice in volume, going from "conversational" to "operatic". "So what do you say? Will you help us in our time of need, Master Eon?"Master Eon paused, weighed his options, and, feeding into the theatrics for a bit, smiled and performed a bow and scrape before Count Moneybone, flourishing his hand as he did so."Consider it done!"And with those words, Master Eon and Hex left the room to the sound of rapturous cheers and applause. ------------------- After quickly and reluctantly discussing the matter of Master Eon's payment with his new employer away from the crowd ("I have no need for gold coins." "Eon, you are not doing this job for free. If you won't take money, will you at least take a rare book from my collection?" "If you insist."), Master Eon and Hex left Count Moneybone's Villa and set off towards the town of Ribcage. Master Eon, with his long grey beard and sky blue robes making a stark contrast to Hex's midnight black, merrily trudged through the desolate land of the undead with his silent witch companion by his side. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and eerie moans echoed through the twisted trees that seemed to reach out with skeletal fingers, but Eon's mood remained cheery. Despite missing his garden earlier in the hustle and bustle of Count Moneybone's crowded study, he had to admit, it has been quite a while since he was asked to do a more traditional "Slay Thy Monster" quest. It felt nostalgic in a way. The Portal Master and his companion pressed on, their determination unwavering, for they had a quest to fulfill!Hex did not share his enthusiasm. She quietly floated beside him, her face still passive and unreadable, as she exuded an aura of immense power. Her eyes glowed with a faint white light that pierced through the fog that permeated the land of the undead. She was always on high alert and she refused to waste more than a single word on such frivolities as "nice day we're having, Hex" and "it's been a while since you've last traveled to the Land of the Undead, Hex."Master Eon had, of course, brought his trusty magic staff with him on his adventure. It crackled with energy as he used it as a walking aide. In addition, he also shouldered his enchanted satchel. Made of dark brown leather and decorated with a single red jewel, it looked like a regular, unassuming traveler's satchel, but it was enchanted to hold so much more than it seemed. Why, if it fell into a lake, it would easily swallow the entire body of water without changing size or weight. No self-respecting Portal Master went unprepared, after all! Today, however, his satchel contained no pilfered sea. Instead, he had packed his magical antique ladle (for making magical antique soup), a thermos that was currently holding a frightening amount of ectoplasm soup, more ingredients for soup in case Eon ran out of soup, various notes on the monster that they would soon face, and a map that would lead them to their destination (that now smelled faintly of soup). It didn't take much travel time to enter Ribcage. Like most villages in the Land of the Undead, Ribcage lay in ruins, its buildings crumbling and decaying from years of neglect. But the unnatural stillness - the lack of unlife in the vicinity, the complete absence of friendly ghosts or zombies happily forming a community through broken boards and windows - was what made Ribcage feel particularly unwelcoming. The streets were littered with debris and overturned carts, evidence of the chaos that had ensued when the entire population was devoured. Clawmarks were gouged deep into the walls of several structures. Broken panes of glass and shattered doors lay on the ground.Neither Eon nor Hex said a word as they searched the abandoned village for their monster. They could see that Moneybone's hunch was right. There were the telltale signs of a chain dragged through the dirt, and they looked fresh. The air was thick with an oppressive stillness. Not even the usual sounds of nocturnal creatures filled the air. Even the lowliest undead cricket was terrified of a hungry ghoul.Their search did not last that long. The ghoul's tracks led to Ribcage's largest restaurant. It was once a quaint little hangout called The Spirits' Tavern ("Where the menu is to die for and the atmosphere is positively ethereal! Four point five stars on Yelp!") and it was in the same pathetic state of existence as the rest of the town. The windows were shattered, and a crowd of overturned chairs and tables sadly lay splintered and abandoned. Despite the constant decay that surrounded them, there was also the smell of something fresh wafting through the air. Master Eon gripped his walking staff with determination. He knew that they were close. Steeling his resolve, the Portal Master pushed open the restaurant's creaking doors and held them open long enough for Hex to float in first. Master Eon always held the door open for his companions as a common courtesy, even during death-defying monster quests. Inside, the remnants of several meals lay scattered across the tables and floor. No phantom pho, spectral soufflé, or midnight macabre martini was spared. The ghoul had been feeding here; its hunger so insatiable that no scrap of food was left untouched. Hex scanned the room for any sign of movement as Eon's staff began to glow with energy, ready to strike at a moment's notice. The Portal Master and his companion moved cautiously through the restaurant and made their way from the dining room to the kitchen and food stores. Once in the kitchen, they were greeted with an odd sight. There was a large smear of food mixture sitting on the floor, still wet and freshly made, with handfuls clearly ripped out of it rather than cooked. Master Eon bent down to examine it. The Portal Master knew enough about cooking from his centuries of living in Skylands that he could tell that he was staring at one and a half cups of all-purpose flour, one cup of unsweetened natural cocoa powder, two cups of sugar, two teaspoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of baking powder, one teaspoon of salt, two teaspoons of espresso powder, half a cup of melted coconut oil, two large eggs cracked at room temperature, two teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, one cup of room temperature buttermilk, and one cup of coffee. But instead of baking this concoction into a fluffy, moist chocolate coffee cake, the creature skipped all of those other steps and gobbled up the raw cake mix with its bare hands. "I see our ghoul knows a thing or two about cooking. They even used measuring cups." Eon said in mild amusement. Hex didn't reply. She remained still, her entire body tense. Her head kept scanning the room, her hands raised and magic beginning to dance on her fingertips. She could sense it. They were being watched. Inside the kitchen, next to the ruins of an uncooked cake, there were three occupants."Eon!" Hex cried. The air shimmered, and a hungry, malevolent ghoul suddenly materialized in the room. The long, sinewy creature with sharp teeth and glowing yellow eyes floated in front of them, sniffed the air hungrily, and then lunged towards Hex with a loud, wordless scream, its greedy claws extended. Hex swiftly dodged the attack, her black cloak billowing behind her, as she countered with a blast of magical energy. The ghoul howled in pain as the undead magic struck it in the chest, but instead of slowing it down, it seemed to enrage the creature further. "SKREEAAAA!!!" The ghoul swung its spiked ball and chain attached to the end of its body wildly through the air in a giant arc, forcing both Hex and Eon to dance out of the way to avoid being struck. Ceramic bowls exploded into shards. Flour and sugar filled the air. An egg timer ricocheted off the wall.'Fifteen pounds is enough to do a decent amount of damage...' Hex mused to herself as the creature swung around and pounced on her, teeth snapping at the air and the ball and chain clattering on the floor. She caught both of its hands in her's as fangs closed shut inches away from her face. The ghoul's breath smelled of rot, ectoplasm, and cake batter."Hex!" Master Eon yelled as magic burst forth from his outstretched hand. The ghoul was knocked aside and away from its prey but it immediately rose to its full height. It howled in hunger and attacked again, saliva foaming at its mouth. In its frenzied, feral state, the ghoul didn't realize just how hopelessly overpowered its opponents were. The Soul-Devouring Terror of Ribcage was used to inexperienced members of the undead and the occasional poorly trained lackey under Count Moneybone's employment. As the ghoul lunged, Hex and Master Eon both focused their powers, casting a series of spells that sent bolts of lightning and a cascade of conjured skulls hurtling towards their monstrous opponent. Their magic blended seamlessly as the two of the most powerful sorcerers in all of Skylands worked together in perfect harmony. The creature roared in frustration as it tried to defend itself against the onslaught, but Hex and Eon were relentless."Immobilize them!" Master Eon commanded.Hex nodded. With a final incantation, the sorcerer summoned a powerful wave of dark energy that summoned a prison of bone that burst forth from the ground. The creature was instantly pinned in place, its body wracked with pain as it let out a piercing wail. Its energy drained, the ghoul was rendered helpless, and it could do nothing but thrash weakly and helplessly like a dying fish on a line. "State your business," Hex commanded the growling, pinned creature as she held a ball of crackling energy near their face. "HISSSSSSSS!!!" answered the ghoul."Now now, Hex. It's hard to state your business when you're hungry." Master Eon said. Already, he was pouring some ectoplasm soup from his thermos into one of the few bowls in the kitchen that remained unbroken from the onslaught. He then kneeled next to the ghoul and gently placed the bowl in front of its face. The monster was so hungry, so ravenous and starving, that it temporarily forgot its imprisonment once it smelled the hearty stew of ectoplasm and spirits. Greedily, it ate, its face shoved into the warm liquid like a starving dog, sending droplets of green glowing ooze flying through the air as it inhaled the food. Horrendous lip smacking noises filled the room. The contents of the bowl were gone in seconds, and the ghoul rested its head on the ground, panting from the exertion.A second bowl slid to a gentle stop near the ghoul's face."Take your time; I brought plenty. I'll ask you some questions when you're feeling better." Eon said."Hnn..hn..wa...?"The ghoul's expression softened a bit as the ravenous hunger subsided and higher intelligence started to flood back into the creature's brain. They coughed, ectoplasm rising from their throat, as they slowly remembered how to talk. No one has asked them to say anything in a while now.But instead of speaking, the ghoul instead devoured the contents of a second bowl of soup. Not as greedily as the first bowl - the ghoul actually grabbed onto the bowl and tilted the liquid into its mouth this time - but still just as hungry. A third bowl of ectoplasm soup was already waiting for them before the second one was finished. Eon and Hex patiently watched the ghoul in silence as it ate the third bowl, then the fourth bowl, and then the fifth. With each finished meal, the ghoul changed. This creature, still pinned to the ground by a fortress of bone, became less like a slobbering, feral beast in a fugue state and more like a person. When the wooden bowl clattered to the floor for the fifth time, the creature was holding their head in their hands, like the sudden onset of lucidity was causing them physical pain."Do you want Hex to free you so you can get more comfortable?""Nnn...hhh...no, I'm fff...fine...I'm fine. I'm fine. Fine." The words were hesitant at first, like the ghoul was remembering how to talk as they went along. The ghoul also seemed unsure about their own voice. Their brow was furrowed, and they tentatively sounded out some vowels to themselves. The ghoul held out a hand in front of its face and tentatively wiggled its clawed fingers as if seeing its own body for the first time. They didn't want to ask for freedom yet. As the ghoul regained their humanity, they remembered that they weren't supposed to be a ghoul.Despite the ghoul's pleas, Hex, her eyes still watching the creature with her stern, emotionless look on her face, made a gentle motion with her hand and the bone prison shimmered and melted away like a fading summer's memory. The ghoul didn't move from his spot. Those piercing yellow eyes that once glared at both Eon and Hex with malevolence and hatred were now wet with unshed tears.Master Eon leaned down and placed a hand on the ghoul's shoulder."Do you have a name?"Master Eon's voice was calm, patient. Understanding. "I should have a name..." the ghoul replied, a sob escaping from the back of their throat. They...He - he remembered that part - HE dragged a hand across his face as he lay there pitifully on his stomach. Everything felt wrong. "But I can't remember it. Can't remember much of anything..."Eon took out his thermos and poured out another bowl of soup."What would you like us to call you?"The ghoul accepted more food and pulled himself into a sitting position. Chains rattled behind him and then around him as his unnatural tail - his punishment for his monstrous acts - formed a small, tight, protective circle around his body."What were they calling me...?"As Master Eon stirred the soup with his antique soup ladle, he unfolded the piece of parchment from his satchel and squinted at the various titles written on the ghoul's rap sheet. "The Soul-Devouring Terror. The Fall of Ribcage. The Ghost Gobbler. The Ghost Eater. The Ghost Roaster. The Ghost Ender. The Nightmare Beast. The Spirit Shredder-""I like Ghost Roaster." The ghoul said glumly, choosing the least monstrous out of the list. It was starting to dawn on him that he just tried to kill and eat Master Eon, the most famous Portal Master in all of Skylands, a couple of minutes ago. He grabbed the bowl that was handed to him and stared down at the tasty, nourishing broth."I remember...roasting things? Before all of this..."Master Eon remembered the cake mixture on the ground. There was a natural talent there, he recalled. Perhaps this ghoul had a hobby in cooking?"Ghost Roaster it is.""This could use a little basil and maybe half a clove of garlic..." Ghost Roaster said to himself without thinking as he examined his bowl of soup, confirming Master Eon's suspicions. This was the first serving where Ghost Roaster was using a spoon, stolen from The Spirits Tavern's storage."What do you remember?"Ghost Roaster gnawed lightly on the spoon and racked his brain."I remember..."Then the memory struck him and the spoon fell from numbed fingers.Hot fire. Burning. Back arching. Muscles twitching. Cry of pain. Guts rearranging. Sinew ripping, tearing, reforming into new shapes. Cry for help. Mouth forced open as teeth kept growing. Growing. Skin melting. Reshaping. Hair falling. Legs growing. Fusing. Needles of lava piercing head. Writhing. Screaming. Howling. Hunger. Starving. Famished. Hunger hunger hungry hunger hunger-"...pain." was the only word that fell out of his mouth. He looked down at his hands again, at his claw-tipped hands made out of yellowed bone, and then looked up at Master Eon. A raw and powerful disgust enveloped his body as his chest tightened. When he asked the question now burning in his mind, his voice sounded weak. Fragile. "Is...is there a way to change me back?"For the first time this entire trip, Hex's face showed emotion. She - as well as Master Eon - winced as if struck as Ghost Roaster looked up at both of them with pleading eyes. When neither of them answered Ghost Roaster's question fast enough - how could they answer such a loaded question? - he tossed the bowl away from him as his emotions got the better of him. "Answer me! There has to be, right?" Ghost Roaster yelled, his voice shaking. His trembling hands grasped at Master Eon's cloak."I-I'm not supposed to be like this! I was something else and-and-and but then I tripped! -and I fell a long way and now...now I'm a monster! I don't want to be stuck like this! What if I hurt anyone else!? What if-" "I know how you feel."Ghost Roaster's complaints died on his lips. "What...?"Hex repeated herself. "I know how you feel." Hex turned her head and looked off to the distance as her voice became pained."Years ago, I too became a monster. I too was hunted." Ghost Roaster gazed at her in shock. He let go of Master Eon's cloak. Master Eon gently placed a hand on Ghost Roaster's shoulder but the ghoul didn't feel it."I was also cursed to join the Undead against my will, long ago. I hated myself too, at first. My skin was cold, my heart was still. I was a living corpse, forever tainted by undeath. I was abandoned by the people I once protected. Hunted by the people I once protected."Hex turned her head to look at Ghost Roaster. Their eyes met. "I have wasted years trying to find a cure for my transformation. What I learned...is that the most common solution for an undead curse is destruction. You have been changed permanently and the sooner you make peace with that, the better."But then, in a rare moment, Hex smiled."But you don't have to suffer your curse alone."Hex held out her hand towards Ghost Roaster. Ghost Roaster, misreading her gesture and forgetting that handshakes exist, rushed over to her and instead swept her up in a hug. Hex awkwardly floated there, arm still outstretched, constricted in a rib-bruising embrace, as the ghoul that once tried to eat her was now loudly sobbing into her shoulder. She could feel her shoulder become wet with tears. Master Eon walked up to both of them, a warm smile playing on his lips. Hex shot Master Eon a look that screamed "do something!"So Master Eon did the thing he was most known for."Have you considered joining the Skylanders, Ghost Roaster?" --------------------- Count Moneybone sat at his mahogany desk in his office, organizing paperwork. The soft glow of the chandelier above him (for Moneybone had a chandelier in almost every room of his manor) cast a warm light on various office plants and stacks of paper from the various undead towns and provinces that surrounded him. Politics was rapidly becoming a fun pastime for him but bureaucracy also took up lots of room in his office. 'Mental note - hire a secretary,' Count Moneybone thought to himself as he sipped on a cup of tea, and that was when the door loudly burst open, sending some of his paperwork flying. Count Moneybone, his floral printed teacup still hovering near his mouth, narrowed his eyes as Master Eon triumphantly entered the room in a flurry of blue robes and greying facial hair. "Well!?" Count Moneybone asked, mildly annoyed. "Did you take care of the ghoul?"Someone behind Master Eon cleared his throat. A spiked ball and chain dragged itself and dug grooves across Count Moneybone's plush purple carpets as Ghost Roaster, still signing official paperwork marked with Master Eon's signature with Master Eon's favorite fountain pen, floated into the room."He did, yes."Count Moneybone said nothing as his teacup fell from his hands to the floor. ----------------------- End
A skylanders imaginators cutscenes redone Deep inside of kaos's lair kaos was walking back and forth seemingly aggravated at his failures. Another one of his doomlanders were defeated once again. He could not stand it. Those pesky skylanders kept winning no matter what he had thrown at them. "Brain!? What am I doing wrong!? Those fools just keep defeating my doomlanders!" kaos asked Brain. Brain looked at him and sighed facepalming. "kaos have you ever thought of taking them out from the inside?" he asked with a hint of sarcasm. "eh!? What do you mean?" kaos ask intrigued. "well those skylanders of yours are rather close. They seem to operate like a family." Brain added."well I've seen them group hug and celebrate holidays together. " kaos noted. "how about you...make it so they turn on that pesky purple dragon. He seems to be the one they all look up to. After all that old portal master Eon is spirit so he can't do anything to protect them." brain says."but it's not that simple! These stupid's are strong-willed! Every time in the past they seem to break out of mind control!" kaos responses. "kaos im basically a god. I'm one of the very beings who created Skylands. I'm sure these skylanders can't hold their own against the likes of my abilities. " Brain says pridefully. "well that is a point. They did never face anyone like you other than the darkness."kaos says. "so why don't we try this? How about for once you have them bowing down?" brain asks. Kaos thinks for a while and glances at glumshanks who shrugs clearly uneasy about the crisis as always. " alright. Let's try this." he says in a slightly worried tone. He knows if this goes wrong the skylanders will get suspicious of him further.brain floats over to the thinking cap on kaos's head and together they say"prestobraino". Meanwhile at the academy. The skylanders were plotting. All the starterpack skylanders were gathered at the meeting table where they spoke to each other. Spyro sits down, trigger happy happily giggles away as usual, gill grunt is next to him nudging him to quiet down, cynder is sighing clearly annoyed by the gremlin's laughing, tree rec per his woodpecker, jet vac is nervously sweating, stealth elf is sharpening her blades, wash buckler and blast zone playfully swap just for fun, food fight is surprisingly just chilling, snap shot is having a conversation with golden queen, spitfire is making sure he isn't burning anyone and king pen is just entering the room." alright everyone. I think we have a problem. Kaos has mysteriously gotten stronger over the past few days and well that is obviously not good at all. He is creating monsters! I remember a time when the only created beings walking around here were Tree Rex and Food Fight....not to be rude to you two. Anyways these things that kaos are creating are unnatural! They don't have souls like we do!" spyro alerts. "I think kaos is messing with something no mere mortal should be messing with and I'm speaking as a technically immortal being!" stealth elf whispered."I miss the days were it was just us vs him! Now he has all this otherworldly help! I rather deal with the blooming mask of power than this mess!" Food Fight says crossing his arms. "agreed. Like sure it sucked that we had our powers taken away but at least we knew what we were dealing with!" Gill grunt says."kaos I hypothesis is messing with powers only for the ancients." king pen adds drawing everyone's attention. "these powers and abilities. They don't belong to him. Have you noticed his magic arua changed from purple to pink lately?" spyro looks at cynder worried. They haven't even thought about the idea that kaos is getting these powers from someone. "spyro you don't think that kaos had summoned the rouge ancient do you?" cynder asks to hope that spyro would say no. "uh...well he did grab the thinking cap and that book so maybe?"spyro nervously chuckles."oh yeah we're done for." wash buckler says out loud."...that was supposed to not come out." outside the academy mysteriously goes silent. As if life itself just stopped. "uh...why did it go quiet outside all the sudden?" stealth elf asks the group. Her ears lower slightly. She had seen creepy stuff before but this was a whole new level of creepy. "oi! and i'm sure the academy is NEVER this quiet! Even at three am!" snap shot says getting up protectively drawing his bow and arrow. "alright this is officially creepy." spitfire says looking out the window and seeing no one. "this better not be one of kaos's tricks!" tree Rex say getting up. The skylanders all walk outside."...where is everyone?" blast zone asks. "yeah they were outside doing their own thing a minute ago?!" golden queen adds."Ahahhah! Creepy! Hahaha!" trigger happy laughs but he is laughing to cover up his fear. The skylanders begin to look around together however food fight begins acting strangely. The artichoke holds his head as if he has a headache. "ugh...guys I don't feel so good-" he stops suddenly. He heard whispering in his ears that were well his leaves.the voice was getting louder and louder. "what...!? What are these voices....!? They are so loud!?" he cries out In pain. The others look at him In Concern. "food fight? Mate what's happening to ya?" snap shot asks walking over to him. Suddenly out of nowhere food fight does a blood-curdling scream. "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!!" he screams. The skylanders jump at the sudden scream.food fight fell to his knees covering his leaves in pain. His eyes were wide and small tears rolled down his cheeks." what are we all looking at him for!? Let's help him!" snap shot roars. However, before they can do anything food fight suddenly stops.food fight just simply doesn't make a sound. "food fight? You okay?" spyro asks. Food fight doesn't respond. He slowly gets back onto his feet. His head hung low as if puppeted.Trigger Happy was about to hop over to food fight Gill Grunt held him back."trigg stay back something is not right." he said. "remember how I said how nobody is outside was creepy? Yeah I take that back This takes the cake!" spitfire says floating behind tree rex hiding behind the giant. Spyro tilts his head. The purple dragon had seen many things in his lifetime but this...this was something much different from anything he had ever seen." hello? Skylands food fight?" spyro waved his claw in front of food fight with no reaction."spyro...what's going on with him?" cynder asks."I have no idea-"before spyro could finish his sentence food fight suddenly looks up. However his gaze. There was something off about it. His eyes were a hot pink hue and glowed. It was as if no one was home. "spyro...his eyes!" jet vac alerts. Spyro jumps back in surprise. Suddenly what was happening to food fight begins to happen to snap shot, stealth elf, Wash Buckler, spitfire, and Golden Queen. Spyro panics he shakes food fight but he gets pushed away.then everyone started to experience it except for spyro. Soon they all stop their scream and all glare at spyro. Spyro backs away. Suddenly a whisper is heard."destroy spyro." it says. suddenly they all attack spyro. Spyro flies away dodging various attacks. "AAAH!! What is going on! I thought we were friends! Family even!" he screamed in fear. spyro got a response but not one that he expected."spyro prepare to face your DOOM!!!" they all said in incision as if in a hive mind. Wait a minute doom? Spyro heard that all too much not to know who was behind this."kaos!? What did you do to them!?" spyro yells demanding answers. Suddenly a voice comes out of food fight alone it sounds like a mix of his own voice and kaos's. "oh it's not just your friends fool! It's all of the Skylands! Ahahahha!"spyro suddenly freezes.all of Skylands? That"a how many people kaos is controlling. Suddenly the dread yacht fries at him. Spyro barely dodges. He sees Flynn, cali, mags, buzz, and hugo all under the control of kaos, and just when he thought that is everyone Tessa flies on Whiskers and tries to attack spyro. Spyri flies away trying to get them off his tail but he soon notices helicopter and jet noises and more flapping. "oh come on!"spyro comments annoyed. He hesitantly turns around to see the stealth stinger, jet stream, and cynder flying behind him. (also this is a playable cutscene by the way.)spyro pushes himself harder. However, he looks down and well it seemed like all the skylanders that weren't there a second ago are now."...AAAH!!! Oh for the love of!" spyro yells annoyed.spyro then sees a window open and flies inside and closes it and barricades the door.spyro didn't know what he was going to do but he was about to figure out what to do soon! Outside the room, he could the skylanders marching on their way to the very room he was in. "think spyro think!...wait I'm not affected! But how!? Is it because I'm a purple dragon?"spyro glances and notices an old map. He walks over and grabs it."dragon's peak of course! That was always the one place that was safe from most threats!"spyro then hears banging on the door. He looks down and sees a vent. He opens it and goes inside before they break down the door. Spyro turns around to see Gill and trigg. "I'm sorry guys..." he faintly whispers as he leaves. Alright, that was my idea of a cutscene remake so let me go over some things. First the reason I Included all the starterpack skylanders is because it just makes a bit more sense. I always thought it was strange how some of them were never an NPC and I also made Spyro's personality a bit more accurate to his personality in the books and trailers so yeah no more cocky spyro and I changed the behavior of the mind-controlled skylanders as well. I was going for a more creepy hive-mind vibe speaking of that you may be asking what was with food fight and the voices in my head thing? So that was based off of the whole devil and angel dynamic a bit from the older cartoons and also I thought it would be cool and creepy if the brain could whisper to them to control them I mean the feeling of being whispered to do something is creepy a bit In itself especially if it to do something bad because I don't know about you but imaginators definitely feels like a Halloween game. or at least it was trying to be anyways. next the mask of power reference. Not much to say there. I just love the books. I wish those became games. Alright last but not least why did I switch the place spyro goes from Dragon Temple to dragon's Peak? well, hear me out. Dragon's temple is just another part of Dragon's Peak. The reason I sent spyro off there is because that place is the universe meeting point so yup when spyro mysteriously arrived in Skylands that's where he was. So it would make sense for that place to have some sort of magical protection.
Mirror of Mystery -Ch.5: The Last Stand-At last, Dr. Krankcase has the chance to destroy the Mirror of Mystery, but this quest begs the question of which side he really belongs on., Leading his squad of villains, Dr. Krankcase approaches Marauders Fortress. His plan is to get to the Technomancer as quickly as he can before too many reinforcements are deployed to protect the castle. “Remember the plan, get in and subdue the occupants as swiftly and as quietly as you can. Follow me until we make it to the Technomancer’s tower. Once I reach that point, Chopscotch will lead the unit back outside as soon as it is safe,” the inventor commands. Standing beside Chopscotch, he whispers to her, “I’m counting on you.” “Hmph! It is true, I don’t need to hear that from you,” Chopscotch replies haughtily. Dr. Krankcase rolls his eyes. He gestures for the team to follow him inside, pushing open the Marauders Fortress’ front doors. To his amusement, Dr. Krankcase finds the layout of the Fortress to be the same as that of Skylanders Academy, only mirrored. So, his prior experience in the Academy has prepared him for navigating the castle. The number of villains they encounter inside the Fortress is significantly less than what the Trap Team is facing outside. It seems like the Marauders did not anticipate a team infiltrating their castle this soon. The plan is working, though Dr. Krankcase holds his breath until they reach their goal. Each time they face an enemy, Dr. Krankcase fears the plan will fall apart, that the unit of villains will betray their orders and gang up against Dr. Krankcase and take him down. So, he moves quickly and looks back constantly. Chopscotch is doing surprisingly well at working alongside Dr. Krankcase, but he suspects that she is having more fun bossing around the team, most of which are Mabu and other small creatures, so Dr. Krankcase understands how easy it is. He never much appreciated the lives of simple minions like that as a villain. But he should not think like that now, should he? They arrive at the corridor outside the Technomancer’s workshop. It did not take them very long to get there. Dr. Krankcase turns to Chopscotch once more and tells her, “The rest is in your hands… Thank you for your help.” “Came for the clout, now I’m happy to get out. Later, alligator,” Chopscotch announces jauntily before leading the group away. Her manner of speaking confuses Dr. Krankcase. The scientist sighs in relief that the mission went well. Although, his work is not done yet. Time for the next phase. The Technomancer hears the door creak open and an ominous voice from behind utters, “Ready for my next trick?” She jumps in alarm, then squints angrily at Dr. Krankcase. “That wasn’t a high enough fall to kill me. But you knew that,” he says seriously, glancing at the Technomancer as he closes the door behind him. She scoffs. “Your implication is ridiculous. I didn’t want ya to come back and bother me.” “Is that what you had to tell your boss? Or was there some other lie you told?” he mocks, “You could have killed me, I know it. You lifted me into the air with your staff. If you had just brought me up higher, you could have dropped me to my death. But you didn’t. My hypothesis: killing me doesn’t benefit you,” Dr. Krankcase says, “I could be more useful to you alive.” “Of course, you’d say that, you’re the one in danger!” the Technomancer ridicules, “Ya shouldn’t make such ridiculous assumptions. Trust me, Dr. Krankcase, your life means nothing to me,” she claims coldly. Dr. Krankcase shrugs, “Perhaps. But, perhaps there’s something inside of you that wants to work with me.” He steps forward. Aiming her staff at him, the Technomancer orders, “Don’t come any closer.” Dr. Krankcase stows his gun behind his legs and demonstrates his empty hands. Of course, the Technomancer knows that his lightning hand remains concealed beneath his glove. Her expression remains unchanged. “I know. You could kill me. It would be easy for you. And yet, you hesitate…” the scientist points out. He comes closer. “Hey! I’m warnin’ ya!” the Technomancer shouts. Dr. Krankcase says, “I know it’s difficult for you to trust me…” “Not difficult, impossible!” the Technomancer retorts with a huff. Persisting, Dr. Krankcase says, “We’re not so different, you and I, you know. That is why I’m here.” The Technomancer shies away. “Well, ya never were interested in bein’ on the same team as me before now.” “I was once, have you forgotten? Inventor’s school…” The Technomancer frowns. “That’s ancient history. What kind of villain would I be if I jeopardized my whole mission for an insignificant part of my past?” Time for Dr. Krankcase to come up with some alluring promises. He puts on a gentle smile - as gentle as one can look with a yellow-tusked underbite - and says, “Well, I only bring it up as a part of a significant future,” he says very slowly, stepping forward with each word. Dr. Krankcase continues, “We can use the Mirror for ourselves. We can start over together, just the two of us, a team. Then, we can build up an army and take over Skylands. Not even the Skylanders - or the Doom Raiders - could stop us. And then you could take the rightful place of ruler of all Skylanders.” How long has she waited to hear that? To have Krankcase give her everything she wants… It is almost too good to be true. “What about you?” the Technomancer asks suspiciously, “Why would ya allow me specifically to rule Skylanders? Don’t ya wish to hold the most power?” A villain always considers who holds all the power, why it is not themself and what they could do to obtain it. She suspects Dr. Krankcase is lying based on his willingness to allow her to rule. The doctor must come up with an explanation quickly. “Of course, I want all the power. Ever since Golden Queen appointed me, I’ve wanted to crush her so I may build my own empire. I’d like to claim every forest in Skylands as my own so I can make an endless wooden army until nowhere is safe from my wrath, with my Evilikins to prove that no one should ever underestimate the power of Dr. Krankcase,” he explains breathlessly, each word building in intensity. That was the old Dr. Krankcase talking. He feels a bit embarrassed about getting carried away. That was a little too real, enough to make it obvious to the shocked Technomancer that these desires are genuine. He clears his throat and remembers the task at hand. Considering what he has learned about the Technomancer’s personality during his time beyond the Mirror, he clarifies, “But I am not so simple as to refute the importance of the right person, the best person, taking charge. After all, you are the Technomancer. You’re the most powerful sorcerer in Skylands. I couldn’t hold a candle to your abilities, and you bested me in combat already. Who would I be to deny you your rightful honor?” he comes closer to the Technomancer, “I’d be a fool, that’s for sure.” She does not order him to step back. The Technomancer has fallen for the flattery hook, line and sinker. It was Dr. Krankcase’s little display of darkness that truly gave her hope. Her eyes have grown wide and she is experiencing emotions she taught herself to suppress many years ago. It can’t hurt to give in just this once, can it? She smiles at the doctor, and he can tell it is genuine. Success. Dr. Krankcase comes around behind the Technomancer, placing his hands on her shoulders and guiding her a few steps forward to gaze out the window, “Imagine, everything out there could be yours.” With her back to him now, Dr. Krankcase slowly prepares to strike. “And we could be just as close as we used to be,” the Technomancer says wistfully, “Or… even closer.” “Of course,” Dr. Krankcase responds. Whatever it takes to keep her distracted as Dr. Krankcase readies his goo gun. “Do ya really mean it?” the Technomancer asks softly. “No,” Dr. Krankcase states firmly, his arms moving rapidly to wrap the tube of his goo gun around the Technomancer’s neck and starts choking her. The Technomancer gasps in shock. Her survival instincts cause her to release her weapon without thinking, hands reaching up to protect her neck. As the Technomancer’s Staff hits the ground with a loud clang, Dr. Krankcase grins. Now, the Technomancer has lost her weapon, rendering her much weaker than the doctor. Still, she struggles, her gloved hands tugging at the tube around her throat. The Technomancer thrashes around in a desperate attempt to throw Dr. Krankcase off, but in physical strength, he has her beat, especially in this restrictive position. Dr. Krankcase does not relent until he sees the Technomancer’s hands fall to her sides, a sign that she is growing weak. So, he steps aside and lets the Technomancer tumble to the ground, coughing and gasping for air. Swiftly, Dr. Krankcase picks up the discarded Technomancer’s Staff before its owner can regain control over it. He is unable to perform any magic with it like the Technomancer can since he is not a sorcerer, which he already presumed would be the case. However, the staff is heavy. Dr. Krankcase hits the Technomancer over the back of the head with the staff. The Technomancer goes limp like a doll and collapses to the floor. Dr. Krankcase winces, dropping the Technomancer’s Staff instantly and crouching down to see if the Technomancer is badly hurt. The impact appeared harder than he had expected. He feels the back of her head and finds no blood; she is alive, just knocked out, to Dr. Krankcase’s relief. “Sorry about this,” he mutters. Lifting his hat and retrieving a rope he brought, Dr. Krankcase ties the Technomancer up while he still has the chance so that she can no longer interfere. Now that the Technomancer is unconscious, Dr. Krankcase cannot threaten her to tell him how to destroy the Mirror as he originally planned. Perhaps it is for the best. His eyes dart back to the Technomancer’s Staff. Smashing it with a heavy staff seems like a viable option. Grabbing the Technomancer’s Staff, Dr. Krankcase rushes to the roof, where the Mirror of Mystery is situated. It looks exactly the same as the Mirror he entered back in his own dimension. From atop the Fortress, he looks at the battle taking place on the ground below. It is very dark outside, making it difficult to tell exactly what is going on, but he thinks the heroes are winning. Though he cannot discern battle strategies at this distance, he chooses to believe that Wolfgang took his advice. Dr. Krankcase turns his attention to the task at hand. The Mirror is in sight. As the inventor rushes towards it, he is stopped in his tracks. Evilon materializes right in front of him, his ghastly, red head blocking the way. He is intent on stopping Dr. Krankcase from reaching the Mirror. With glowing yellow eyes, he peers at Dr. Krankcase, an unsettling grin spreading across his face. “Well, if it isn’t Dr. Krankcase. Come to stir up some more trouble for us, aren’t you?”, “Out of the way, Evilon. Or I’ll just go right through you,” Dr. Krankcase orders. Evilon knows that he cannot physically stop the doctor, being only a spirit, but that does not make him powerless. “I can’t stop you, nor will I try to,” he states casually. The inventor blinks in confusion. “...Why not?” he asks hesitantly, fearing that destroying the Mirror would not be the end after all. “Well, you have essentially succeeded in your mission. What would be the point of asking you to use the Mirror now?” Now, Dr. Krankcase is taken aback. “Me? Use the Mirror?” he repeats, “I’m going to destroy this evil thing.” “Oh, come now, Dr. Krankcase. Don’t be so blind. It is obvious you don’t belong with the Skylanders!” Evilon tells him. Shaking his head, the scientist contends, “No, I’m not a villain, and I’ve come to prove it!” “Clearly, that means very little. You yourself admitted it earlier while speaking with Golden Queen…” “How did you-” “Not to mention, you are here, beyond our evil forcefield. And what was it you were just saying to the Technomancer? Yes, I heard it, you said you wanted to take all the forests in Skylands,” Evilon reminds him. “I’m not like that anymore, that’s not what I want…” Dr. Krankcase protests. “Hmm. I don’t think you know anymore,” Evilon says in an almost musical voice. “But, by all means, destroy the Mirror, return to your life of uncertainty, or…” “Hey, I see what you’re doing!” the doctor exclaims, “I don’t want to go back to the old days… I like my life now.” “Isn’t that what you tried to convince yourself in ‘the old days?’” Evilon pries, “What about… these days?” Suddenly, in the Mirror of Mystery, Dr. Krankcase sees a land he has not thought about in many years, one that he hardly remembers, but seeing it now instantly triggers his memory of the humble grove on the outskirts of Skylands where he grew up. “No…” Dr. Krankcase mutters in disbelief. He almost drops the Technomancer’s Staff at the sight of it. A feeling of sadness washes over him. The idea of returning there fills Dr. Krankcase with a sense of dread. He cannot remember why just yet, but he knows that he had a reason for leaving his home all those years ago. “Now do you see how much power this Mirror holds? I can send you there now, just walk through the Mirror and leave it all behind. Find where you belong,” Evilon urges in a hypnotic voice. Dr. Krankcase refuses to be toyed with. “You’re insane if you think I’d want to return to that place!” he shouts. “What?” Evilon utters in confusion. That should have got him. “I’ve worked too hard to leave it all behind now. I know where I belong,” Dr. Krankcase replies confidently. Time to prove himself. He pulls a remote from his pocket and presses a button. Unsure of what Dr. Krankcase has coming, Evilon continues trying to persuade him, “Stop being a puppet of the Skylanders!” From the skies above comes a shrill cawing. Evilon looks up, frightened by the noise. He is confronted by his worst fear. Locking onto its target, the falcon dives at Evilon. With a shriek, Evilon disappears just before the falcon gets too close to him. Even though the machine cannot harm him in his spirit form, the instinct is to flee. In the cover of night, the falcon is more convincing, enough to trigger Evilon’s phobia. The dark Portal Master does not even stop to consider the logic of the situation. If he were of sound mind right now, it would occur to him that the falcon is simply one of Dr. Krankcase’s machines.Fortunately for the inventor, that is not the case. Dr. Krankcase steadies himself and swings the Technomancer’s Staff. Evilon reappears behind Dr. Krankcase to beseech him to stop. “No!” he calls out, but it is too late. The staff collides with the glass and the Mirror shatters, showering the ground with glass.Meanwhile, the falcon continues to pester Evilon, causing him to vanish and materialize all across the rooftop. The Mirror of Mystery is shattered, but Dr. Krankcase wonders if that will be enough. So, he decides to throw it off of the Marauders Fortress. That should destroy it. He sets down the Technomancer’s Staff and grabs ahold of the Mirror. It is larger than Dr. Krankcase, but he manages to heave it off of the edge, at which point, it topples down over the castle and breaks into several pieces on the ground below. Infuriated, Evilon tries to get into Dr. Krankcase’s head once more. “You fool! You may have delayed the inevitable, but I will have my victory! This won’t be the last you see of me! Just you wait…” For a moment, Dr. Krankcase is worried that destroying the Mirror will trap him here in this dimension, but soon the world around him begins to dissipate, Evilon’s voice fading away. Dr. Krankcase reappears in the courtyard of the Skylanders Academy he has come to know. Looking around at the familiar surroundings, he feels relieved to be back. Glumshanks, on the other hand, seems quite disappointed that he must now return to Kaos. Enigma and Ka-Boom were keeping watch of the Mirror of Mystery at the time of its destruction, so are the first to congratulate Dr. Krankcase on his success, and to ask him if he needs medical assistance, which the inventor brushes off. Soon, other Skylanders converge once they get word of Dr. Krankcase’s arrival. Some look surprised by the good news, others are beaming with pride. Seeing as he is missing an entire leg, many worried voices ask Dr. Krankcase if he is alright, to the point in which he gets a little annoyed by it. He sees a familiar sorcerer approaching and excitedly turns his attention from the crowd. Mags calls out, “Dr. Krankcase!” Of course, she rushes to his side with a look of concern on her face, “Are ya okay? What happened to ya?” Suddenly, pulls her in for a big hug, even lifting her off the ground a bit. He does not even care that the Skylanders are watching. Mags gasps in surprise at the doctor’s earnest display of affection. “Let’s just say, I don’t ever want to be on your bad side again,” he states. “...I’m so happy you are the way you are,” Dr. Krankcase whispers, still holding Mags tight, “Don’t ever change, Mags.” Mags blushes and laughs coyly. “Hey, sure ya ain't the Dr. Krankcase from the other dimension?” she asks jokingly, as she is not used to the mad scientist she knows being so openly affectionate. Dr. Krankcase lets her go. “Nope. Same old me.” “Good. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Mags smiles. “The other me sure did a number on ya, huh?” she observes. “Heh, I’ll never underestimate your staff again.” His gaze then falls upon rubble that once was the Mirror of Mystery. He remembers what Evilon showed him and wonders if he will ever return to the place where he grew up. Mags notices his face fall. “Is everything alright?” she asks. “Just a little worn out after today,” Dr. Krankcase says. “Well, you’ve more than earned a good night’s sleep. And in the morning, we can fix your legs.” “We?” the doctor repeats. It never occurred to him that this would be anyone else’s problem but his own. “...Is that alright?” Mags asks. Perhaps she was being presumptuous, she realizes that Dr. Krankcase is rather private about the maintenance of his legs. Nodding happily, Dr. Krankcase says, “Yes, it’s alright. I think… I’d like the support.” “Well, I’m your gal! Now, let’s go, you need to rest!” Mags says, about to lead him away. “But, the Villain Vault is just over there,” Dr. Krankcase reminds her. “Oh, they haven’t told ya the good news yet?” Mags asks. "You didn't give us the chance!” Ka-Boom says with a laugh. Enigma moves forward, “Dr. Krankcase, for your courage and demonstration of loyalty to the Skylanders, the Trap Team has decided to grant you your freedom. You are no longer required to be trapped anymore and can go wherever you please,” he explains. I knew it was a test, Dr. Kranckase thinks to himself. “So, we've arranged a place for you to stay here at Skylanders Academy, if that is what you want. Or, as long as you don’t return to villainy, you’re welcome to leave,” Ka-Boom offers. Now, Dr. Krankcase feels everyone’s eyes on him again. “It’ll take more than that to get rid of me,” Dr. Krankcase chuckles, “I’ll stay.” The group cheers him on. Mags does an excited little jump, “I’ll show ya the way!” she announces, linking her arm with Dr. Krankcase’s and sweeping him away. “I knew ya could do it! I already put some things in your room for ya!” “You knew about this whole test thing?” Dr. Krankcase asks. “Not exactly,” Mags explains, “It just so happened that a mission came up that was perfect for ya.” “Well, I’m just glad I won’t be trapped forever,” Dr. Krankcase says. “Oh, of course not! They started releasing villains not too long ago,” “Really? Who?” “Let me think… There was Hood Sickle, Tae Kwon Crow, Chill Bill, Grave Clobber…” Mags lists. “No former Doom Raiders?” “Just Wolfgang.” “Wolfgang!” “Yup. Eon made the decision a couple days ago,” says Mags, “He decided to stay here, just like you did.” “That’s humbling,” Dr. Krankcase mutters bitterly. For a moment, he thought that he would have been the only ex-Doom Raider to have this honor. “Hey, be nice,” Mags chides. “You’re right,” Dr. Krankcase admits, “I ought to be grateful. I really am glad to be here. It means a lot to me.” “I’m glad you’re here too,” Mags smiles, “I can’t wait to show ya your new place! It’s not huge, there are a lotta people here, after all…” “As long as it’s not made of Traptanium, I’m sure I’ll love it,” he responds with a grin, excited to see his new residence. It feels good to be welcomed here. , Previous Chapter:,MMirror of Mystery -Ch.4: To Battle-Good and evil engage in a fight for the Mirror of
Mirror of Mystery -Ch.4: To Battle-Good and evil engage in a fight for the Mirror of Mystery., When meeting up with the Trap Team, Dr. Krankcase finds that all of the Doom Raiders with whom Dr. Krankcase worked are here as heroic members of the mirror dimension’s Trap Team, and all wielding Traptanium weapons, some of which are quite different in nature to their villain counterparts. Interestingly, there is a Trap Master here who was not a part of the Doom Raiders: Pain-Yatta. Dr. Krankcase remembers Pain-Yatta as he once asked to join the Doom Raiders, a request which was denied by Golden Queen who insisted that it was only she who was allowed to recruit villains to join the team. Perhaps the Trap Team was more appreciative of him. Of course, the members of the Trap Team, aside from those who met him earlier, look surprised to see him. So, Golden Queen clarifies, “Trap Team, this is Dr. Krankcase, though, not the one you are all familiar with. He comes from the Mirror and has been helping us fight the Technomancer in order to get the Mirror of Mystery shut down.” The Chompy Mage looks Dr. Krankcase up and down inquisitively, “So… if Dr. Krankcase is a hero in our dimension, doesn’t that make you a villain?” The Trap Team stares expectantly at Dr. Krankcase, all except for Golden Queen, who is nervous that Dr. Krankcase will be offended by the Mage’s forward question. “I was, I admit it, but now I work with the Skylanders,” Dr. Krankcase explains for the umpteenth time. “I didn’t know changing sides was an option,” mutters the Chompy Mage. Lightening the mood, Dreamcatcher says, “Wow, it’s, like, totally cool to meet someone from another dimension!” “What are the other versions of ourselves like?” asks Chef Pepper Jack. Before the conversation gets away from them, Golden Queen changes the subject. “I know this is all very exciting, but it’s only a matter of time before the Marauders will call in the Mabu Offense Force to defend their Fortress,” Golden Queen announces to the Trap Team. “Though Dr. Krankcase will need to get inside the castle again to get to the Mirror of Mystery.” Dr. Krankcase cackles. “Mabu? I can help with that, Mabu are notoriously easy to kill.” The Trap Team gapes at the mad scientist with disturbed looks on their faces. Realizing his statement was rather off-color, Dr. Krankcase backtracks, “I mean… they’re very easy to defeat,” he grins nervously. Wolfgang shoots a shrewd glare at Golden Queen as if to once again tell her to be wary of the doctor. “Um… I do not believe that is the best idea right now. We really need you to focus on the Technomancer,” Golden Queen says, “But please don’t kill her…” she adds in a quieter voice. Seeing the apprehensive looks of the heroes, Dr. Krankcase frowns. “I wouldn’t… I just got a little ahead of myself,” he explains, mentally scolding himself for his cruel statement. Sometimes, he still forgets that he is not supposed to say things like that anymore. Golden Queen moves on, hoping to clear the air a little. “If the Mabu Offense Force comes, I am sure we can handle them.” “But what if they don’t just send the Mabu? What if they send everyone?” Dr. Krankcase posits. “He’s right, you know. We’d be overpowered for sure!” the Chompy Mage exclaims. “So, what do we do? Call in more Skylanders?” Wolfgang asks. “No need!” Dr. Krankcase announces confidently, “I can build an army of Evilikins,” Dr. Krankcase offers, “It’ll be quicker than flying in reinforcements, with a lowered risk of casualties.” “Evilikins?” Dreamcatcher repeats with a raised eyebrow. “Oh, that’s just what I call them,” explains Dr. Krankcase, “They’re wooden robots that do my bidding. They don’t necessarily need to be evil.” “They better not be,” murmurs Wolfgang. “That does sound more efficient… How long will this take you?” Golden Queen asks. “Oh, a few hours, I suppose,” the inventor answers. “That’s it?” Chef Pepper Jack asks incredulously. Dr. Krankcase shrugs, “I’m a fast worker.” Golden Queen looks to the sky. “If the Marauders have not sent forth their warriors yet, they may wait until nightfall and make us fight in the darkness. A few hours is exactly what you have now, Dr. Krankcase.” “Leave it to me!” the inventor assures, his green eyes gleaming in anticipation for the chance to prove himself, “I’ll just need ironwood, as much as you can bring me, steel and plenty of goo, of course. Oh, and get me some cedar and canvas.” “We shall see what the trolls have in storage,” Golden Queen says, “While we assist Dr. Kranckase, Wolfgang and Pain-Yatta, will you help rally the trolls to rebuild their mechs to supplement Dr. Krankcase’s army?” “We’re on it,” Wolfgang states. “Ser pan comido,” Pain-Yatta says optimistically before following Wolfgang into the village. The rest of the Trap Team, plus Dr. Krankcase, make haste in gathering everything the doctor needs. With all these hands on deck, the supplies keep flowing and Dr. Krankcase cranks out robots at a rapid rate., Just as he promised, Dr. Krankcase produces an army by dusk, even leaving enough time for the heroes to get into position. Once he activates all his robots, they set off for the battlefield. With the whole team assembled, Dr. Krankcase proudly introduces his creations to the Trap Masters. “I present to you: the Woodenstein. Large but mechanically uncomplex, hence, I can build them the fastest,” he explains. “And what’s that?” Wolfgang points out the inventor’s unique creation amidst the wooden army. The creature in question is a large, wooden falcon made of light cedar and canvas. Starkly different from the type of Evilikins Dr. Krankcase normally builds, it stands out amongst the hulking monsters. “That is my contingency plan,” Dr. Krankcase announces, “Eon is terrified of falcons. I assume Evilon may be the same.” Wolfgang looks at him with surprise. “How do you know that?” he asks. “Dreamcatcher told me just the other day. The other Dreamcatcher, of course,” he clarifies, looking at the air Trap Master. “I guess someone let it slip to her, and she keeps track of that kind of thing,” in a low voice, he adds, "Either that, or she secretly used her powers against Eon…” Everyone turns and looks as the double doors of Marauder's Fortress slam open. Villains begin rushing out of the doors. “It’s time. Onward, Trap Team!” Golden Queen commands. Everyone readies their weapons as waves of villains rush forth to defend Marauders Fortress. The heroes must wait for their enemies to come to them, as they are still unable to pass the forcefield. Most of the combatants are warriors of the Mabu Offense Force, led by the mirror dimension’s Doom Raiders, but they appear to be backed up by another group of enemies. “Are those zombies?” Dr. Krankcase asks with surprise. It is rare to come across zombies beyond the realms of the undead, and they definitely are not naturally occurring. “The Technomancer can raise the dead,” Golden Queen mentions with a grimace. Once again, the Technomancer’s unfathomable dark powers are being revealed. Even Dr. Krankcase is unsettled by the idea of necromancy. Using the corpses of those meant to rest in peace is cruel. Looking at the desecrated beings leaves him feeling cold. Some zombies look a bit more fresh; others are more worse for wear, slowly shuffling at the back of the crowd. They do not have the vitality of creatures summoned by Undead Spell Punks, but even Rotting Robbies have a strong resistance to a number of attacks. This is where Chef Pepper Jack comes in. He charges ahead, flinging exploding hot peppers far beyond the forcefield to take out the zombies. The rest of the Trap Team get ready to fight the approaching villains. Leading the crowd now are the Doom Raiders, including some familiar faces that Dr. Krankcase recognizes as Trap Masters from his dimension. The first to cross the forcefield is Krypt King, and Wolfgang immediately pounces forth to take him on. Enigma and Tuff Luck gang up on Golden Queen, hoping to take out the Trap Team’s leader first, but she is backed up by the Gulper. The teamwork exhibited by the Trap Team is impressive. As more villains cross the forcefield, the members of the Trap Team shuffle between targets with ease. Fighting alongside them, Dr. Krankcase cannot help but feel a bit jealous of any group that works this well off of each other because he never knew such camaraderie among the Doom Raiders. He figures that is why they lost in the end. When Dr. Krankcase nearly loses his hat to a gear sent hurdling his way by Gearshift, Dreamcatcher gets in between them to take on the Doom Raider. The plan is not for Dr. Krankcase to get too involved in this battle, as his more pressing directive is to sneak back into the Fortress to destroy the Mirror of Mystery before it is too late. First, though, he will need to get past some villains. Calling forth his Woodensteins, Dr. Krankcase helps defend against the villains until the opportunity presents itself. Though the wooden robots are no match for the Doom Raiders, they make quick work of the Mabu. Dr. Krankcase cannot help but feel disappointed whenever he sees one of his Woodensteins get dismantled, but between the surviving robots, the Trap Team and the trolls backing them up from behind, things are looking good for the heroes. At last, Dr. Krankcase sees a clear path to the Fortress. Signaling to his small army of trapped villains, they press on amidst the commotion while the battle rages on without them. Dr. Krankcase is ready to face the Technomancer one last time., Previous Chapter:,MMirror of Mystery -Ch.3: Aftermath-The Technomancer kicked his ass. Microsoft announces they have acquired Activision Blizzard, their game studios and the game IPs they own, such as Call of Duty, Skylanders, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Overwatch, and Diablo.
Please note that this does not automatically mean a new game is being made. This just means that the Skylanders franchise will be owned by a different publisher.
